Counting Down to Christmas with 25 Names of Jesus

I can’t think of a better way to kick off Christmas than with 25 names of Jesus! Advent calendars are one of my favorite things about Christmas! Especially one that includes names of Jesus. After all, the anticipation of Christmas is almost as exciting as the actual day.

As a kid, we had a handmade felt banner that hung vertically on the inside of our front door. There were two rows of Hershey Kisses tied with yarn. Every day my brother and I would pull off our piece of chocolate after school. I can remember running inside to grab my piece. It was so fun.

Christmas Tradition of Counting Down the Days

That tradition continued with my own kids, and Hershey Kisses! We had a little fancier felt hanging that my mom got for the kids. It had little pockets numbered with the countdown. By the time the third kid arrived, we could barely squeeze all the Kisses in each pocket. But no one cared. It was all about the countdown.

My mom is helping to continue that tradition for her great-grand kids. She just got them a cute felt wall hanging, similar to the one we had but with slightly bigger pockets. I imagine my daughter will also place Kisses in the pockets. They are everyone’s favorite.

Simple & Meaningful Advent

Do you think our Advent countdown tradition is a bit simplistic. I suppose it is. No sliding drawers on a big wooden house. Or cute numbered sacks strung across the mantle. It would be so easy for me to get really extravagant with the countdown, even for me as an adult. Why not?

But that sets me up for overspending. Also, it is added stress as the Advent gifts become more than a piece of candy. So for me, I’ve always kept it simple. That’s why I made these Names of Jesus Advent cards. It was strictly for selfish reasons.

Counting Down with Names of Jesus

I created a set of advent cards that feature the 25 Names of Jesus. This year I will be gone most of the month of December. There is a new grandson on his way is December. So, the cards are coming with me. I can focus on a name of Jesus each day and reflect on the verse that goes with it.

25 Names of Jesus

So here they are. I love having the scripture references too. Feel free to add these to your own advent in a creative way. You can also grab the printable download in the shop. They make 4 x 4 inch cards. I’m planning on tucking one in the Christmas tree each day. It would also be fun to clip them on a string across the fireplace or on a wall.
